Fitbit Enhances Surge and Charge HR With Killer Updates

Fitbit Upgrades
New features for the Charge and Surge will up your fitness game.

Fitbit, the wearable tech megabrand, has introduced new features for its users that are making the Surge and Charge HR smarter and more powerful than ever. If you don’t already own one, these upgrades will convince you to add a Fitbit to your holiday wish list. Also just in time for the holidays, Fitbit Charge HR and Fitbit Surge are available in new blue and tangerine colors.

“Our users find exercise in all parts of their day, including activities like short walks with the dog or a bike commute to work,” said Tim Roberts, VP of Interactive at Fitbit in a press release. “These new features allow them to focus on their exercise, giving them credit for their most active moments and letting the technology do the work to automatically track progress toward their fitness goals.”

1. SmartTrack

With the addition of SmartTrack, your Fitbit Charge HR or Fitbit Surge will automatically recognize continuous movement, identify the type of activity you’re engaged in, and record your data with an exercise summary—including duration, calories burned and heart rate stats—in the app. Basically, the wearable can detect when you’re churning away on a spin bike, blasting through some cardio-kickboxing, or playing a pickup game of soccer so you’re continuously tracking progress toward your fitness goals.

2. PurePulse Enhancements

Fitbit’s original heart rate technology, which details your resting heart rate and heart rate trends over time, has been upgraded to provide you with a more optimal tracking experience during high-intensity workouts. To activate the update on your Fitbit Charge HR, use Exercise Mode; to activate on your Fitbit Surge, use the multi-sport modes.

3. Exercise Goals

Within the free Fitbit app, you can set a weekly goal for the number of days you plan to exercise, and track your daily progress. Aside from keeping you accountable and serving as daily motivation to hit your personalized goals, the app will help you find the routine(s) that are right for you.
