In a new study released last week, the American Cancer Society is recommending that women at average risk of breast cancer get annual mammograms starting at age 45 rather than at age 40, and that women 55 and older scale back screening to every other year.
We asked Dr. Port what her thoughts were on the news, and her answers might surprise you.
"The bottom line," she insists, is that "there is very clear evidence that for women over the age of 40, the likelihood of dying is 15% lower if you do get mammograms." So there you have it!
